The hunt for the cure

So the Hunt for the Cure is a great scavenger hunt/adventure race that will be taking place this Saturday, October third and will be benefiting Roswell Park Cancer Institute. This is the second year of the annual event and will be starting in the parking lot of Gordon's Bar on Deleware Ave at 12:30 p.m.

Registration will begin at 11:30.KanJam is a partial sponsor of the event and there will even be a KanJam leg of the race. This is an awesome way to raise money for a great cause and should be a lot of fun. There's even prizes...I'm not sure what the prize will be for this year, but last year's winning team received 100 dollars each New Era.

Whoever ends up going to the event I'd be really interested to hear your experiences from the event, and we'll put that up on the blog.

Saints are marching to the superbowl

Let's start the week off with a happy day after Yom Kippour to all of my jewish brethren. The KanJam blog did not have a post yesterday in honor of the Jewish tradition of not fasting on Yom Kippour...However this did not stop us from going to the Bills game Sunday night where I think I saw the best team in the NFL. Unfortunately it was not the Bills.

The New Orlean Saints put on a clinic Sunday afternoon on how a good team is supposed to play. The Saints knew they didn't need to use all of their plays and tricks and everything else that makes their offense work to beat the Bills, so they didn't. Though the game was close, the Bills were never in the game and besides one drive in the third quarter where Edwards threw an interception near the redzone, they never came close to scoring after the special teams touchdown made it a 7-7 game. Thus there was no need for New Orleans to show opposing coaches plays they will likely unveil in divisional matchups which will matter more later in the season.

That win by the Saints on Sunday was much more impressive than the wins over the Eagles and Lions because it was the first time they were in a close game, it was the first time their offense didn't explode, and it was the first time their defense showed it can be a championship defense. Though the Bills ineptitude may have had something to do with that.

Right now the Saints are the second favorites to win the super bowl at 7/1, behind only the Patriots, so it's no surprise they looked as dominant as they did, it was how they dominated that impressed me. They did all the little things right, and in the fourth quarter when they needed to score to ice the game, they outscored Buffalo 17-0.

Now on to some KanJam, because frankly the Bills depress me... Mike from SunKing sent me a link over the weekend of video from his KanJam tournament in Florida. It starts off a little slow but there's some good action in it. I'm sure there are a lot of great videos on youtube, and you may have some great home videos from tournaments and home games. If anyone wants their video on the blog send it to alex@kanjam.com. If I get enough I'll make a video page so they can all go together.

Thursday Playlist: Catchiest/random songs

So as I'm writing this post today the "Hey" song is stuck in my head. Just thought everyone would like to know. I mean you know the hey song right? Here just click on the link if you don't, and thank me lateter.

In honor of the "Hey" song, were talking about the 6 catchiest/random songs. I know this is a list and a lot of people don't enjoy lists. But you know what? I do, and plus it's catchy. And to spruce things up a bit we'll call it a playlist, and it won't go in any numerical order. Is that better?

5. Da Da Da: This song is random, not many words, is catchy, and you will be humming it for weeks. We have a spot for Da Da Da by the Trio in our ten song playlist.

2. The good old hockey game: First of all I love hockey. Second of all it's a great theme song for the NHL10 commercial which looks awesome. Third The good ol' hockey game, is the best game you can name.

6. Talk to me, dance with me: This is the version they did on Letterman, and all I can say is I've got a fever...and the only prescription is more cowbell.

3. Grace Kelly: This Mika jam was once stuck in my head for one month straight. Litterally. The crazy thing is I still love the song.

1. This song right here: I wasn't exactly sure what to call it, but the first time I saw that video a few months I died in laughter so that qualifies for catchiest/random song. I love the part where they have him saying "any other" that gets me every time.

4. New Age Outlaws: Now I don't know if this neccessarily counts as a song, but there is music playing in the background so I'm going to say yes, it counts. And if you're not down with that?....well listen to the video.

Florida State Championships

So this post is for all of the KanJammers in Florida, or any neighboring state. Heck it's even for anyone up north who's going to be in Florida over the next couple months. So ya, this post is for everyone.

Sun King has already held two regional tournaments in the Florida State Series, and there will be two more coming up in November. Sun King will eventually name a Florida State Champion, in the state championship tournament that will be held in December.

The next two regional tournaments will be held in Orlando on November 8th and Jacksonville on November 22nd. For more information on the tournaments you can contact Mike Barnett at sun_king28@hotmail.com

So Florida has their own state tournaments, and according to Mike he wants to grow the series next year to the point that the winners could win an entry and trip to the World Championships in Buffalo. My question is what other states have state titles? Can anyone outside of Buffalo fill me in on that?

Personally I would love it if one day the KanJam World Championships were like the US Open for golf. In order to enter the tournament, you would have to enter a state qualifying tournament and finish in the top 5. Also if you had won any KanJam sanctioned tournament within the past year you would be granted entry into the tournament. This way we know for sure who the best player in the country is. Obviously this is a few years away from coming to fruition but the only way this idea becomes a reality is if people start organizing state championships, much like Sun King and Mike have done in Florida.

Now who's going to jump on board and start the state series in Georgia? Or Pennsylvania? How about New Jersey? Is anyone from Idaho up to the task?

New photos

Hi everyone,

well this monday is surely better than last for everyone in Buffalo. But for people in Cleveland and Detroit, better things on the way for your football team...however you may be waiting until April to reap those rewards. 

Now, who has seen The "U's" jump to number 9 in the nation this week? A lot had to do with the fact that Florida State beat Utah, making Miami's win over the Seminoles on the road even more impressive, and opening a spot in the top 10 with Utah's loss. Also USC's choke job couldn't have come at a better time.

Short post today because I just spent an hour uploading all of the photos from the KanJam tournament and we still have more to put on the all photos page later. But one quick note: When's the last time anyone has heard from the band JET? I was listening to their old cd which came out sometime in the mid 2000's...even had a hit that Apple used for ipods....and it's still an awesome CD, but have they even released anything since than? Wierd.

New rules page plus a miracle hole in one

Happy Friday everybody,

Another aspect of KanJam blog 1.1 is finished as the rules page is now up. You can access it by clicking on the rules page link on the top left corner.

 

Before the blog shuts its doors for the weekend, I hope everyone saw this awesome hole in one for a million dollars on Thursday, as well as Miami’s great victory over No. 14 Georgia Tech Thursday night.

 

Book it right now, if Miami gets through these next two games unscathed – on the road against Virginia Tech and at home against a (hopefully) Bradford-less Oklahooma Sooner team – Jacorry Harris and The “U” will be making an appearance in the national championship game.

Sporcle, prizes, photos coming soon, and more sporcle...what more can you ask for?

So first of all sorry for no posts yesterday, my laptop was on the fritz and for all we know it may crash again as I'm typing this so let's hurry up.

First of all I don't know how new this site is and how many people know about it but I am officially addicted to sporcle.com. It's a trivia site that lets you take quizzes on different categories. This morning I attempted to name all of the .400 hitters in MLB history, the names of all of the 2008 USA olympic basketball team and all of the quarterbacks drafted in the first round since the historic 83 class.

To be honest I gave up on the .400 MLB players and quarterback one because there were just way too many that I didn't know. The 2008 basketball one was a different story. I had it won, and with 45 seconds to go all I had to do was spell Mike Kerijdsjfidfjksdkljy's last name, and I couldn't do it. Damn Kerijewirljerkjerlkjewjy.

Like I said earlier, my computer has been acting up which is the reason there are no photos up from the tournament over the weekend. But they are coming. Soon. I promise. Like they really are. Also I'd like to start collecting photos from tailgating and KanJam at tailgating, maybe there could even be a prize for the best tailgating photo including kanjam of the football season. I have my season tickets to the Bills so I'll be there taking photos before the game. But everyone in Buffalo or from out of the area, at NFL games college games or peewee games, send your kanjam tailgating photos to alex@kanjam.com and we'll work on getting a prize for the best of the season.

Lastly, I know the people in Buffalo have indoor leagues for the winter. Whether it be at the epic center or any other indoor athletic facility. But what about people outside of Buffalo. If you play in an indoor league post in the comments where your playing so that kanjam doesn't go into hibernation during the winter months.

Well... atleast there's always KanJam

So can anyone in Buffalo tell me what happened last night? I'm trying to black it out but I believe that the Bills gave up an 11 point lead with 5 minutes left in the game. I know that a lot of people who read this blog are not from Buffalo. And they won't understand the pain that many went through last night. But still please allow myself and every other die hard Bills fan/Kan Jam player our moment of reflection to what will go down as the second worst regular season loss of the decade.

I will still put that Dallas loss on Monday Night Football two years ago at number one. But that's just because nobody saw it coming. We were blindsided. That game was litterally o-v-e-r. Just recover the onside kick. Just defend the sidelines so that TO can't catch a pass and get out of bounce. Just do anything to not let them STOP THE CLOCK. Well we all know they didn't and the Bills lost that game.

But yes, I would put this loss in front of the Cleveland Browns loss on Monday Night Football last season where Lindell missed that fieldgoal wide right at the end of the game. Only because Cleveland outplayed the Bills in that game and they were very very lucky to even have a shot at the win.

I would even put this loss in front of the Broncos loss in the season opener two years ago when Jason Elam and the Broncos kicking unit got on the field and snapped the ball in 10 seconds without a timeout to win the game.

You know, the Bills have had some pretty devestating losses these past few seasons. Thank god it's almost hockey season. I mean the Sabres wouldn't get Buffalo's hopes up just to let everyone down in the end, would they?

This was a very bad day to wake up if you're a Buffalo fan, but despite this posts negative tone, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. I mean we did just hold the best team in the AFC to 13 points in the first 55 minutes of the game didn't we? And our offense did move the ball and score when they had to (besides that desperate last drive) didn't they? I think if Trent Edwards can find a way to complete passes to Lee Evans and TO, and Alex Van Pelt can find a way to successfully use both Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson they might be able to win a few games. I mean at the very least they should beat Tampa next week. RIght?

Right?

All I know is after the game I went on facebook and saw a video that really hammers home the feelings of all Buffalonians today. Once again, thank you ESPN.

Taylor I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish but....

Happy Monday to everyone. First let's start off with one of the funniest videos I've seen in quite some time. Kanye West proves once again he's an arrogant d-bag, but Taylor Swift's reaction to this moment is priceless. Oh this happened at the MTV VMA's last night, don't act like you were'nt watching it live.

In other news Adrian Peteron is really really good, and Brett Favre is really really really really old. Favre looked bad yesterday against the Browns, despite what the stats will say. He was immobile, was sacked what seemed like 20 times and was just abysmal. I would say the most life he showed the entire game was when he tackled his own receiver after throwing a touchdown.

Now onto KanJam. Unfortunately no one won the 25,000 dollar grand price on Saturday at the UB Pitt football game, but team Hippy Jamfest did take down the tournament before the game. Hippy Jamfest defeated CanAm in a thrilling three game series, 21-20. There will be photos of the tournament coming later in the day. (Probably close to 5 or 6 pm.)

Some of my favorite team names from the tournament had to be Define Statutory, 2legit2quit and team flippy floppies.

UB KanJam and the Beatles

Hey there everyone...quick reminder for everyone, tomorrow (Saturday) KanJam is going to have a big tournament at UB before the Bulls take on Pitt at noon. The tournament is only open for UB students but should be great to watch for everyone who isn't eligible. Also the winning team from that tournament plus two students chosen at random are going to have an opporutnity at halftime of the football game to throw for an instant win. If they get this on their first shot they'll win a cool 25 grand. It's just that easy people.
